About Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture
TCM and Acupuncture is a holistic approach to health and well-being.
The treatment approach of TCM is based on the theory that all disorders and illnesses arise from an imbalance in body systems.

The skill of the acupuncturist lies in an ability to make an accurate assessment from what is often a complex pattern of disharmony. The exact pattern and degree of disharmony is individual to each person, and acupuncture aims to treat each person with a personalised treatment plan. A trained TCM practitioner is able to restore the body's energy balance through acupuncture, massage or cupping. The practitioner may also decide to assist the individual body-systems through prescribing Chinese Herbal Therapy

How does acupuncture work?
There are about 500 acupoints along 12 energy meridians. Fine needles are inserted at the selected points around the body to stimulate or suppress the flow of "Chi" – natural body energy.  I will select those points most beneficial to you at every treatment.

How can acupuncture help me?
Because Acupuncture and TCM works on correcting imbalances in the body, it can be an effective therapy on its own or in conjunction with other treatment approaches, including conventional allopathic medicine as well as other complementary therapies.
Acupuncture can be beneficial for back pain or knee pain as well as for general wellbeing and vitality.  It is suitable for all ages and safe for almost everyone, including pregnant women, children and babies. It is recommended to speak to the acupuncturist to find out whether you/your specific condition could benefit.

Is Acupuncture painful?
Acupuncture needles are much finer than needles used in blood tests and injections, and are solid rather than hollow. There should be no pain during the insertion of needles. You may feel a slight tingling sensation when the needles are inserted. This indicates that the treatment is beginning to have some effect. Needles are inserted either for a second or two, or left in place for up to 20 minutes, depending on the effect required.

How many treatments will I need?
Your first consultation may be longer than subsequent sessions and can take up to an hour and 15 minutes.
First, Tejal will assess your general state of health in order to identify the underlying pattern of disharmony to select the most effective treatment combination. Then you will be asked about your current symptoms and what treatments  you have received so far. You will also be asked about your medical history, your diet, digestive system, sleeping patterns and your general emotional state.  After that, Tejal will discuss her findings and recommendations with you as well as giving a treatment.
Subsequent sessions usually last 45 minutes.
