Records show that it was first used by American Indians for a variety of conditions from wound healing to venomous snakebites. It was introduced to the U.S medical practise in 1887 where it was widely recommended for many illnesses and in particular for the treatment of infectious disorders. Echinacea contains a range of pharmacologically active compounds including polysaccharides, flavanoids and essential oils.
