A herb, cultivated mainly in France, Italy and Greece, the essential oil is extracted by steam distillation.  The whole plant is used to produce Bitter Fennel oil but this should not be used in aromatherapy.  Only Sweet Fennel essential oil, produced from the crushed seeds should be used. It has a sweet, aniseed aroma and blends well with Lavender, Geranium, Sandalwood and Rose.

Sweet Fennel is a diuretic and has a strong detoxifying action.  It is useful to help promote the excretion of alcohol from the body. Is excellent for treating cellulite and helpful with hormonal problems due to its oestrogen - like properties.  It is a good carminative, useful for digestive problems.
